Match Summary by David Carter
The Millers secured the three points with an added time winner from Freddie Parker, his mis-cued shot looping into the back of the net beating the keeper’s outstretched hand. TQ Addy had given Bowers an early lead and after on loan goalkeeper Harrison Chamberlain had made a fine double save to prevent Bowers going further ahead, parity was restored just after the half hour mark. Freddie Parker and Michael Ademiluyi combined well playing a one two with Parker firing home. A much improved second half performance from the Millers saw them enjoy more possession and create the better chances but a combination of some brave defending, particularly a couple of blocks by Joe Halsey and saves from keeper David Hughes held the Millers at bay until the dramatic winner at the death.

On a bitterly cold afternoon where widespread frost decimated much of the nations football , this was one of only 4 fixtures in the Isthmian Premier to go ahead, thanks almost certainly to the 4G pitch installed at the Len Salmon stadium
I was personally in 2 minds whether to go , staving off a cold and feeling far from 100% so I opted for the comfort and relative warmth of my car as opposed to public transport once it seemed clear from intel received that the game was likely to go ahead
The drive was fairly straightforward with no delays at the Dartford crossing, and soon I was parking my car outside the ground and settling down with a coffee in the bar area, delaying my exit until only a few minutes before kick-off.
The first 45 minutes was rather like watching a game of chess where both players have just gone for the attack and left their King undefended, such was the ease with which defences were being carved up, and there could be little surprise when the scoring started on the 10 minute mark as T Q Addy slotted home for the hosts, and although we were creating some chances too, the better ones were definitely down the other end and we needed a desperately good save from debutant on-loan 'keeper Harrison Chamberlain to stop their lead increasing.
On the half hour mark though, shortly after the Bowers had missed another glaring chance to extend their lead, came the move that restored parity. Freddy Parker, once again demonstrating his desire to try to run through brick walls dispossessed a Bowers player in the midfield and played it out wide to the energetic Michael Ademiluyi who, after sweeping past his man played a lovely ball in on the diagonal for Freddy running into space, and the talismanic strker picked his spot and the 'keeper had no chance.
As daylight faded, the temperature dropped and we inched towards half-time I reflected on a sense of relief that we had hopefully weathered a storm of pressure from the home side, and I waited with cautious optimism for a burger and the second half as the groundsman found the "ON" switch for the floodlights.
Whatever was discussed in the dressing room at half-time clearly worked, as the Millers defence and midfield seemed far more solid, and we for a while started to think it was only a matter of time before we pushed in front, as Freddy still wanted to run through brick walls, Marcel Barrington on as a sub was growing into the game and really tormenting the Bowers left-back, and Tom Beere and Danny Waldren causing havoc in the midfield.
However, some virtuoso defending by their No.2 Joe Halsey somehow denied both Ademiluyi and Barington, and just when Freddy looked likely to finally score, the 'keeper David Hughes somehow got a hand to it ; a brilliant save. Meanwhile a rasping free kick from Tom Beere from just outside the box went narrowly wide of the post ......... but did strike my coffee with a bulls-eye !!!
And so, as the minutes ticked down towards the 90, news filtering through that Billericay were one down at Horsham, I might not have been the only one thinking it was just going to be "one of those days" when we'd just have to settle for the draw. Bowers & Pitsea had defended like lions in that second 45, and it was clear the recent change in management at the Len Salmon had galvanised the squad and on the balance of the game were clearly not going to meekly submit to finishing the season in the relegation places, so maybe a draw was what we would have to settle for at the fianl whistle
But of course, a Steve Mckimm side is rarely allowed to think like that ...... and moments after the 4th Official had indicated that there'd be 5 minutes of added time, a ball in from Cem Tumkaya found that man Freddy Parker .......and to our ecstatic delight we watched the ball loop just in between the near post and the despairing 'keeper's outstretched hand to put our noses in front , and despite desperate late pressure from the hosts, we held on for the 3 points that our second half dominance richly deserved.
The players came over to thank the travelling support at the end, always a lovely and much appreciated gesture, and it was yet another gloriously tumultuous end to a Cray Valley PM game !
