HEADS UP WALDREN SEALS THE POINTS
PITCHING-IN ISTHMIAN LEAGUE PREMIER DIVISION
CRAY VALLEY (PM) 1 HORSHAM 0 - 9 NOV 2024 - ATT 267
Goals: CV - Waldren 47
Match Report By Steve Chapman
Danny Waldren's 47th minute header proved Cray Valley's match winner as Steve McKimm's side continued their impressive start to their campaign with a slender home win over Horsham. Results elsewhere in the division this week means they climb to second, three points below leaders Dover Athletic on 27 points after 14 games. This was a competitive encounter at the Artic Stadium between tow promotion hopefuls, one with very little besides the all important goal between them.
A cagey first-half saw Freddie Parker have an early chance saved by Hornets stopper Lewis Carey, while Charlie Hester-Cook and Reece Myles-Meekums both came close, the latter denied by Max Ovenden before half time. A large portion of fans were still mingling in the hosts' bar when the veteran midfielder Waldren scored the only goal immediately after the re-start. The excellent Fumnaya Shomotun sprinted down the left, jinked past two defenders before delivering a far post cross where Walden stole a yard before heading home past Carey.
Horsham had two free-kicks on the edge of the penalty area, ballooning both high above the bar. Valley's sub Adam Coombes could've added gloss late on with a glancing header, which Carey ultimately saved.
